As a team, we are committed to sustainability and promoting environmental understandings within our program. We engage in professional learning opportunities annually to refresh and update our knowledge. Through exposure to environmental concepts, we encourage the children to develop respectful and ethical decisions about their world.
Our outdoor environment helps children explore and investigate in nature and they learn how to look after it. Our program supports every child to engage in quality experiences in the natural environment, through the use of natural materials, sand, water, mud, clay, rocks, trees, bushes, bush food, fruit trees, native plants and a lush garden environment.
Our 4 groups are intentionally named after Australian plants featured in our native garden.
Children access water from water tanks for their play (building on understanding of water conservation) in our large sandpit and separate digging/mud patch.
Our natural playground attracts wildlife such as lizards, butterflies, possums, beetles and kookaburras. We also have a native stingless bee hive. Children have real life opportunities to explore these insects and animals in their habitats to develop their understanding of biodiversity.
Children sort any waste into labelled bins after meal times and learn about using the compost bins, worm tubes and our worm farm.
We encourage families to send ‘rubbish free lunches’ and fresh, unprocessed food with minimal packaging as much as possible.
